Apple Sets Purchase Date for Mac Pro/Pro Display

After six long months, Apple has finally announced when you can order their new cheese grater Mac Pro and Pro Display with $1000 display stand. The objet de désir will be available for order on Dec. 10, or just two short days away from this blog post. The starting price for the tower alone is $6,000 while the monitor will start at $5,000, or $6,000 if you spring for the monitor stand.

So, are you going to be laying down $6,000-$12,000 or more (some websites estimate you can price the machine up to $50,000 with upgrades) to get into the Mac Pro club? Is getting a computer and monitor with the combined price of a new budget car worth it for you? Truth be told, unless your cranking out 8K content, or are seriously into 3D modeling or other high-end, number-crunching, cpu-heavy requirements, this isn’t the computer for you. Heck, even if you are there are a number of computers that can get the job done for far less.

Regardless, if you have the money, and the requirements, I think Apple has made a very strong case for themselves with this computer and I think it will sell very well to an audience that has been chomping at the bit for a high end, truly professional, production machine. I’ll be following the machine closely and will report on any benchmarks I see once it’s released into the wild.
