The Professional Photographer of America hosted their annual Imaging USA convention at the Gaylord National Harbor convention center in National Harbor, Md., Jan. 13-18, 2022. I visited on Jan. 16, the official opening day of the main event and the expo hall. While at the event I had the opportunity to attend the keynote address and see keynote speaker Mike Michalowicz. Afterward, I explored the expo hall and, besides meeting photojournalism legend Pete Souza, I had the opportunity to interview for exhibitors.

Overall, it was a great event and I’m glad I had the opportunity to attend. It was nice to attend an in person convention event, even with COVID and the Omicron variant still running rampant. Neither Omicron or COVID prevent a slew of attendees from participating in the event. Many were probably happy just to be able to go to an in person event since last year’s was held completely online. While this was my first time at a PPA event, I don’t think it will be my last.
