Probably one of the most important, significant and prominant jobs you can have as a photojournalist is as the president’s official photographer. This is a job that is as exclusive and elusive as being the president him or herself. As much as some would disparage an incoming president Trump I don’t think there is a photojournalismmt alive who would turn down the possibility of photographing him throughout his presidency, no matter there party affiliation or way they voted. Having the oppurtunity is just too great.
I highly reccomend watching the five minute peice on CBS Sunday morning as it does a great job illustrating just what it takes to be a good photojournalist not just of the president, but of anyone or any subject. My favorite quote is of him talking about always having to be ready. No better words illustrate the core tenant of what it takes to be a good visual journalist.
