The long-awaited GH5 was formally announced at this year’s CES with all the specs and details that were left out of it’s early announcement at Photokina last year. Some of the specs of the camera that make it noteworthy are it’s ability to shoot 10-bit 4k/30p video in the camera, something that required a $2,000 add-on in the GH4, the ability to shoot 4k/60p 8-bit video, 6k stills capture, Dual I.S. 2 5-axis stabilization and improved autofocus. The camera will also have dual SD card slots, a 20.3 megapixel sensor, can shoot 100 continuos RAW files, Additionally, the camera is set to be released at the end of March and will cost $1,999.
I’m personally very excited for this camera. If you know me and know the show, you’ll know that I gush about my GH4 every chance I get. I come from a Canon background but honestly feel hard pressed to use my Canon 5D Mark II anymore, and with this camera I don’t think there’ll be a reason for me to keep it. What I think is neat is that I bought my GH4 before I my first child, Julian, was born, and now I’ll be buying this new camera just in time for my next child. We don’t have a name for him or her yet but maybe Pana or Sonic would be a good fit.
