Congrats to Carl Johnson! Wins Gold for his book ‘Where Water is Gold’

Friend of the show and panelist Carl Johnson has just announced that his gorgeous and important book on Bristol Bay has just won Gold at the 2017 Independent Publisher Book Awards. Where Water is Gold: Life and Livelihood in Alaska’s Bristol Bay collects Carl’s photos from multiple trips to the remote Bristol Bay region in Alaska that is home to a 50% of the world’s sockeye salmon supply. The area is under threat thanks to a gold and mineral find by the Pebble Mine Corp.

Carl will accept the award this summer in NYC at the annual BookCon.

You can listen to my interview with Carl below where we discuss the book and the potential mine that would destroy the watershed. Check out his website for more stunning photos of Alaska’s beauty. You can buy the book here.
